The structures of local self-government were restored in Poland in 1990. The commune is the basic and at the same time the lowest local government unit. The communes are created by poviats, these in turn - voivodships, of which there are 16. We distinguish three types of municipalities: urban, urban-rural and rural. Grodzisk Mazowiecki is an urban-rural commune.

The City Council has a constitutive and control role. He makes decisions about the most important issues of the proper functioning of the city, including adopting the commune statute, the city budget, adopting spatial development plans and session reports. The term of office of the City Council lasts 4 years from the day of election. The Council is headed by the chairwoman Joanna Wróblewska and two vice-chairmen Mirosław Gajowniczek and Andrzej Okurowski.

City's coat of arms - Bogorya

It is a sign of the coat of arms of the Mokronoski family, who owned the city in the 17th century. As a municipal coat of arms it was already used before the war. At the Session on June 28, 1995, the City Council officially approved, as its symbol, the sign of Bogoria: "in the red field, two silver croaks with silver arrowheads".

This coat of arms originates from a village in the province Sandomierz named Bogoria, which was given the coat of arms of families from that village. Kacper Nisiecki - an outstanding Polish heraldry derives the genesis of Bogorya's coat of arms from the times of Bolesław Śmiały and the Battle of Snowský. All interested in this story I refer to the study.
